CHIANTI RUFINA AND POMINO WINE ROAD
It is the oldest road in Tuscany, the symbol of a territory, which is marked by the history and artistic genius of Giotto (1267-1337), as well as being home to antique Florentine families and an important place of worship. The Chianti Rufina and Pomino Wine Road, set in the immediate vicinity of Florence (12 kilometres away) between Mugello and Casentino, embraces valuable treasures immersed in a magical setting, where the main protagonists are endless vineyards, dense woodlands, olives and cypresses.
In the smaller and prestigious Chianti production sub-area, delineated by the municipalities of Pontassieve, Pelago, Rùfina, Londa and Dicomano, the bunches lead visitors to explore the medieval underground cellars of castles, ancient fortalices, which have been transformed over the centuries into comfortable country residences, magnificent renaissance villas overlooking the gentle hills. With a visit to the cellars, the Road not only offers a journey through perfumes of ruby red Chianti Rufina DOCG or white pale straw yellow Pomino DOC, but also a route to explore stone bell towers and towers, Romanesque parishes, mysterious castles and other interesting places, all waiting to be discovered. In Poggio di Frascole, near Dicomano, you can admire one of the most important archaeological sites in val di Sieve and Mugello, an Etruscan settlement where there are the ruins of a fortified residence dating back to the 4th - 2nd century B.C., not to mention the incredible works of art by ceramic and terracotta craftsmen. It is a route that crosses art, history, nature and culture thanks to the trail of ancient tastes from the local gastronomic tradition.
